"Change, if it is to be long lasting, must occur on the unseen levels first. With understanding, inquiry, openness. With the realization that you eat the way you do for lifesaving reasons." - Geneen Roth.
Exploring Relationships With Food

Everyone has a relationship with food. Are you happy with yours?
Eating is a required part of life. From the time we are born much of our nourishment comes to us through food, and thus we inevitably begin to develop a relationship to it based on many different factors.
The majority of families in western society share meals together and do much of their socializing and connecting around a dining room table. As we grow we learn what foods we like and dislike, and what does and doesn't agree with us and our bodies. Some of us develop allergies to certain foods, others learn to view food as a source of comfort or of pain and suffering, and yet others create unhealthy rituals that make food into an enemy, a lover, or a best friend.
Each of us has a unique story about how food was viewed and shared in our family and how we have come to relate to it in our lives now.
Few of us allow ourselves the opportunity to discuss and question the way in which we relate to food. I invite you to explore your relationship to food in our sessions together.

Food Addiction

Many people in our world today feel empty and devoid of passion and purpose. This emptiness longs to be filled, and we are often programmed to fill it with the wrong things. We eat over top of our repressed feelings in order to numb out, yet shoving these feelings down does not make them go away. As a result, we may become dependent on certain foods to cope.
In addition, the foods we seek for comfort or escape are often filled with substances that create a negative reaction in the body and cause us to overeat. These substances include: sugar, flour, caffeine, wheat, and refined carbohydrates.
I invite you to change what is no longer serving you and discover what you are actually hungry for.

An Invitation

This is an invitation for you to explore what is happening inside you; to listen to your body, your feelings, your cravings and step towards creating your recipe for wellness.
This is an invitation for you to love yourself.
Although I place a lot of focus on relationships with food, I am not trained to deal with the specifics or physical ailments of eating disorders. I am open to discussing these and related issues, but I do not profess to offer medical advice or treatment. If you require further assistance I would be pleased to offer referrals or suggestions.
